Thanks Stan for doing this. I believe it will be agreat platform for reflective thinking and gossips. Learning is is cognitive process. If we do sth w/o thinking back, we may not learn.
Since I left. It has been a busy time for me. Though I taught abt 20 hrs a week, sometimes more becos of BCLS or AED, I felt more busy than b4. That is becos of the things I have to teach. They are at diff levels and thus I have to think abt how to best deliver the sessions.
Indeed, it makes me think if I am a good teacher (Used to think I am - becos I think I can explain well!). This is becos I recently realise that a good teacher does not mean much. It is good learning that matters! To how does good learning work? When a teacher teaches and a student listen, most part of it is forgotten. Only when the learner actively engages in digesting the info, evaluate the info and synthesise it with their prior knowledge or past experience that it becomes meaningful. And thes eoccur in the learners' mind. A good facilitator will have to help these happen.
I still do not know how to do this. Sigh!
Thank you Mr Tan for posting the 1st post for this blog. I think that you are a great teacher as you motivate your students to do better. I agreed that sometimes there are certain challenges with some students as their minds are not 'fully opened' to learn. It is not only the responsibilities of the teacher for making the learners learn but also the learners themselves must desire to learn before any learning can take place. This is my take on learning! We are all learners in this School of Life, so I believe you will only become better and better. I wish you all the best Mr Tan!
ReplyDeleteIn my student life, Mr Tan, you are the only one who is the best, active & great lecturer I met. You did the best teaching & explanation. I enjoyed your teaching. I accepted what Stanley said. There are different type of learners. We learned in our own ways and ability to absorb what the lecturer taught also different. If we couldn't get the concept of the lessons, however the lecturer explained, we won't get the ideas. It's not all lecturer's faults. Hoping for better things! Best wishes for u Mr Tan.
